A helpful cat!

Say hello to the keyboard cat, a fun homemade wrist rest that will make you want to do away with that boring old wrist rest of yours in no time.

All you need to make your very own keyboard cat is some fabric, thread, scissors, pins, and a bag of rice--oh and some embroidery skills. The end result is pretty neat, and will no doubt turn a few nerdy heads at the office.

Step-by-step pictures and instructions at instructables.

Waldorf Baby Bunnies

These tiny little bunnies (2.5" and 2.25") are knit from hand spun grey angora yarn so they have real bunny fur but won't hop away!

They are stuffed with clean wool and have embroidered wool felt ears. Completely handmade, this sweet set is so soft and fluffy. They would make a wonderful gift for the child, spinner or bunny lover on your list. These are traditional Waldorf style bunnies made completely of natural fibers, great for a nature table or doll play.

As cute as a sock monkey?

Might be cuter than a sock monkey ...

This instructable will walk you through the step by step creation of a Sock Penguin. This project was completed for a Grade 1 (6 year old kids) class that has been studying penguins.

Please note that no penguins were harmed in the creation of this project, however, some socks were severely damaged in the prototyping stage. Please do not use socks that still contain feet.

Note that hot glue guns can burn you. They're called "hot" for a reason. Do not let 6 year olds operate hot glue guns. Adult supervision is required. Also, do not let 6 year olds operate heavy machinery. It's just a bad plan.

Do it yourself: Blender Defender

Brian has a cat that wouldn't stay off the kitchen counter. So he created the Blender Defender.

For about $200.00, Brian hooked up a motion detector to a computer programmed to turn the blender on when it is activated. The noise of the blender startles the cat, and he's gone!

Genius!

Wearing The Hair Of The Dog

Thanks to If It's Hip, It's Here, I found a great series of photos by photographer Erwan Fichou of people posing with their beautiful dogs, sporting canine couture... actual sweaters and vests made from the hair of their own pet dogs.

You must see more of these photos: Dogwool

Incredible sand sculptures

The Daily Mail has a feature on the sand sculpture festival in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. Twelve experts in the medium are turning 360 tonnes of sand into iconic images. My favorite is the sleeping lion.

Creative grooming

Because of a story at Mail Online, I've just discovered a brand new world!

It's an entirely different universe - one that has dogs which come in all colors and dogs that don't look like dogs.

In this world, people actually hold contests and win prizes to see what bizarre things they can do to the dogs.

Have a look:

Myra Macias transformed her standard poodle, Peach Cobbler, into a motorcycle with the theme "Poodle Rider." (via)

Katherine Ray sculpted a depiction of a horse into the side of her poodle. (via)

Christy Van Cleave turned her dog Jack into a "Poodles Under The Sea" theme. (via)

Deanise Stoops turned her dog Jada into the character Jack Sparrow including a peg leg, a beaded goatee, hat and more. Nice coordinating outfit, Deanise! (via)

Dawn Omboy has also turned a poodle into a pirate. I don't think Dawn's outfit is as good as Deanise's. At least she tried though. (gr8grmr)

Sandy Hartness turned this poodle into a Ninja Turtle named Leonardoodle. Hey, Sandy, where's your costume? (via)

Carmon Baker and her dog Missy chose the theme of Hoochy Poochy Parlor. Next year Missy will select the theme and will turn Carmon into a white poodle. (via)

Sandy Hartness has disguised Cindy the poodle as a chicken. (via)

Then, poof, Sandy turned Cindy into a peacock! (via)

Here's Odin, another poodle, as a rare dragon dog. (via)

This must be poodle camouflage of some sort. (white dog)

We've seen a lot of altered poodles so far, but they're not the only breed subjected to all these artistic efforts.

Sarah Reynolds turned her dog into the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas." (via)

Angela Kumpe has managed to turn her dog into a dragonfly. (via)

This is Bailey. He must be a Dolphins fan. (via)

Here is Susan Tyner with Ralph. Are they twins? (via)

Video: Creative grooming for dogs
Some dog shows have "creative grooming" competitions, where groomers create unusual cuts for pooches. NBC's Brian Balthazar reports. TODAY's Maria Menounos talks with Dawn Omboy, a master groomer.

A pine-y bear

Artist Richard Carpenter made this bear from "hundreds of thousands of pine needles. The pine needles were gathered off the ground, sorted, washed, trimmed and hand woven, over 8 months, in making the life size bear."
